A client came into the Battle Creek Office on November 30, 2012, upset and crying because he had no heat in his home as he couldn’t afford to fill his propane tank. The client was scared and frustrated and felt like he didn’t have anywhere to turn for help. Our intake workers calmed him down, and helped him get required documents for an intake appointment. They did an intake for the senior the same day, and were able to authorize an emergency fill. Intake workers also informed the client of other senior services in the county that he could be eligible for (transportation, congregate dining, etc.). The client was able to go home to a warm house, and for that he was truly grateful.
